Baby Boomers Usher in New Style of Retirement Communities

A new wave of retirees is fewer interested in enormous “retiree” housing developments. They want far more custom made housing choices that fit their active way of living.

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J. – Significant retirement communities are remaining challenged by a new wave of retirees exhibiting fewer desire in sprawling housing developments constructed for them. Instead, today’s retirees favor custom made housing choices that fit their active way of living.

The notion of retirement communities is not disappearing, but it is shifting in structure and location, CNBC reviews. For illustration, just prior to the pandemic, far more retirement communities ended up popping up near college campuses so that seniors could continue lifelong mastering.

Why universities bank on senior housing

Retirees want to keep active life. “In some scenarios, you’ll have a way of living director who acts like a concierge, who will coordinate various activities in the various clubs within the group. … People today are in search of a new experience for a stage in their life,” claims Jane Marie O’Connor of 55+, a guide firm that functions with builders and builders on senior housing and life. “Retirees are no more time relegated to southern weather. They want a group in which they can be active amid like-minded peers.”

They’re also needing far more customization than a conventional cookie-cutter retirement group. “Over the final 6 months, we have observed an emphasis on out of doors area,” O’Connor claims.

Communities that cater to this far more active retirement way of living are also helping seniors overcome loneliness – “the biggest danger to our resident’s overall health,” Amy Schectman, president and CEO of 2LifeCommunities, which serves about one,five hundred seniors in the Boston location, claims. “Our remedy to isolation is group. Our people want the blend of privateness when they want and the group at their doorstep.”
